Currently, the YMCA of Okanagan child care division serves over 500 families with over 60 staff. The Queen's Park Child Care location will offer care to 12 Infant Toddlers, 25 3-5 year old's, and 10 preschool spaces along with 12 school age spaces.  With 2 new multi-age locations opening in Penticton and central Kelowna, we will continue to grow and provide best-in-class care and programming for more families in the Okanagan. The Early Learning Supervisor ensures an educational, nurturing, and safe environment for children, maintaining or improving the YMCA of Okanagan's play in action Y Canada annual assessment average of 90%. In addition, the Early Learning Supervisor provides guidance, coaching, and feedback to educators during program times, supporting and dealing with sensitive member family experiences and situations, children's behaviours, as well as the development of staff. The responsibilities of this role are part time in ratio caring for children and part time supervision/administrative responsibilities.

Reporting to the Manager of Child Care Programs, the Early Learning Supervisor oversees and monitors the YMCA Playing to Learn licensed Child Care Centre at the brand new to be opened Queens Park location, providing ongoing support to early childhood educators, practicum students, and volunteers.

NEW Location: YMCA Playing to Learn Child Care Centre at Queens Park, Penticton

Start Date:  Second week of February 2019, with 3 weeks of training. Location set to open to clients on March 4, 2019

Compensation: Starting at $20.50/hr

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, implements, leads, and evaluates specific expectations of curriculum to ensure YMCA Playing To Learn curriculum is maintained
  • Actively participates in programs with children, while being able to coordinate care and meet the demands of staff, children, and families
  • Establishes and maintains positive daily communication and interaction with families, providing quality customer service and building meaningful relationships
  • Actively ensures licensing standards and safety standards are maintained for all child care settings and outings
  • Executes the YMCA trademarked curriculum standards as well as standards of care, delivering all educational requirements of Playing To Learn curriculum
  • Monitors and support children with difficult behaviors and coaches staff accordingly
  • Actively participates and promotes philanthropy through YMCA Association initiatives, including the Strong Kids Campaign and other events (i.e. Healthy Kids Day)
  • Collaborates with Managers and educators regarding programming and child-centered plans
  • Executes behaviour care plans, utilizing a child-centered approach by engaging parents and educators and other YMCA staff
  • Completes 3- & 6-month probationary reviews for new educators

Qualifications:

  • Due to licensing standards, must have Early Childhood Educator education with Infant Toddler specialization certificate
  • First Aid certificate
  • A medical note confirming a clean bill of mental and physical health
  • Must be 19 years of age
  • Completed Responsible Adult Certification
  • 1-year experience working with children in a playing to learn early learning centre and/or people management
  • Class 4 driver's license (van transportation)
  • Alignment with YMCA mission and values
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Successful candidates are required to provide three references two must be professional in nature (i.e. employer, supervisor, teacher, coach or colleague)
  • Successful candidates are required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six months preceding start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork
