Reporting directly to the Health, Fitness and Membership Manager, the Health, Fitness & Membership Coach is a key team member to the Fitness and Membership department at the Kelowna Downtown YMCA. 

Health, Fitness & Membership Coach is responsible for instilling the Y's core values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty. The Health, Fitness & Membership Coach will provide a caring, safe and fun environment for all members, provide one on one coaching as well as manage memberships.  In addition, the Health, Fitness & Membership Coach will design fitness programs at the Kelowna Downtown YMCA while building relationships with our members.

10-20 Hours/week

Major Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional health and fitness programs and services as per YMCA Coach Approach standards and best practices.
  • Instruct drop in group fitness classes.
  • Ensure safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff.
  • Provide Individual training programs with an emphasis on exercise adherence including tips and cues based on level of knowledge and within established scope of practice for level of certification.
  • Carry out daily equipment safety checks and cleaning.
  • Actively participate in and promote philanthropy through the YMCA Association initiatives, including the Strong Kids Campaign and other events (e.g. Healthy Kids Day)   

Qualifications:

  • Current Weight training/Personal Training Certificate by a recognized governing body (e.g. BCRPA, CFES, CSEP)
  • Degree in Human Kinetics or related field is an asset.
  • Upon request provide three professional references (e.g. Employer, Supervisor or Colleague.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than [six (6) months] preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
