We are seeking a full-time Lifeguard/Swim Instructor who is energetic, personable, resourceful, well-organized, with superior interpersonal skills, and excels in a fast-paced, challenging work environment. Reporting directly to the Aquatic Supervisors and Manager, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard is a key team member to the Aquatic Department at the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre.
The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for the safety of others, for teaching, and instilling the Y's core values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty in Y staff and members. The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor maintains a safe and clean work environment and delivers aquatic programs during assigned shifts. The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor works as part of a large dynamic aquatics team, while building positive relationships with members.
Major Responsibilities:
- Delivers exceptional aquatic swim lessons, programs, and courses to members
- Develops swim lesson plans
- Completes reports, statistics, records, etc. as needed
- Work as part of a staff/volunteer team, ensuring a welcoming environment and excellent customer service
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment
- Ensures all awards or certifications are kept up to date
- When needed, performs on deck lifeguarding of members and the public
- Performs other related work as required
Qualifications:
- YMCA Canada Swim Instructor or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
- National Lifeguard Service Certification-Pool Option
- National Lifeguard Service Certification-Waterpark Option (or ability to obtain certification by start date)
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR- C
- AED Responder must be completed within 3 months after hire (must be Lifesaving Society certification)
- Upon request provide 3 references. A minimum of 2 will be professional in nature (e.g. Employer, Supervisor or Colleague.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than [six (6) months] preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
