Join our new Community Programs team at the YMCA! Enjoy a fun environment, with a flexible work schedule, all while helping to transform the lives of children and families in the Okanagan.

Beginning this spring, the YMCA of Okanagan will provide free drop-in parent participation early years services. These programs will integrate socializing, learning, and play opportunities for children ages 0-6 with individualized service navigation support for vulnerable families.

Reporting to the General Manager of Community Programs, the Family Support Facilitator will provide guidance and support to families accessing the program. The Family Support Navigator will be in direct contact with families during intakes and consultations, and ongoing communication with families during plan implementation, direct referral processes, and follow-ups. In addition, the Family Support Facilitator will provide support to the Early Years Services team who will plan and provide group-based activities and experiences that are age and developmentally appropriate and enhance early learning, community belonging, and support cultural awareness. The candidate is energetic, personable, resourceful, well-organized, with superior interpersonal skills, and excels in a fast-paced, challenging work environment. Major Responsibilities:

  • Builds meaningful relationships through positive daily interactions with clients, families, colleagues and community partners, including professionals such as speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
  • Models sensitivity to the diverse needs of children and families, such as literacy, emotional, sensory, social, behavioural, and cultural differences.
  • Networks and establishes a solid knowledge of community service providers and seeks permission to contact professional team members to support families' success.
  • Using the Stepped Care approach, takes the role of the helper and provides direction in the development of family-centered success plans.
  • Maintains accurate and up to date case management files on each family to detail supports given, monitor progress and follow-ups, and document referrals to services.


  • Certificate, diploma, or degree in human/social services or a related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a similar position
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the impacts of colonization and residential schools
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Experience working with children and families experiencing acute or chronic vulnerabilities such as mental health, substance abuse, and or/violence
  • Crisis management training considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team and work independently in the face of competing priorities
  • Upon request provide 3 professional references (eg. Employer, Supervisor or Colleague).
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than 6 months preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
