The YMCA of Okanagan has an annual operating budget of over $14 million, employs 300 staff, and provides programs and services to over 43,000 participants each year.

Reporting to the VP of Fund Development & Marketing, the Fund Development Officer will demonstrate the ability to: implement a donor centered cultivation process, a values based solicitation style and a cause driven appeal; build long-term relationships with donors; drive ambitious and specific goals for an annual campaign; operate in an organized manner; remain flexible with a positive attitude; communicate exceptionally well orally and in writing; and handle information confidentially.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage a portfolio of established and prospective donors to achieve or exceed forecast growth through a variety of fundraising initiatives including major gifts, annual giving, events, and legacy giving.
  • Implement a professional and strategic approach to donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.  
  • Support the fundraising process conducted at the branch level, with focus on imparting best practices in annual campaign solicitation, strategic planning and special events.
  • Solicit and engage sponsors, teams, donors and volunteers to the YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids event.
  • Manage a successful annual staff and volunteer fundraising campaign and the ability to develop and nurture strong relationships with colleagues.
  • Participate in the development of solicitation/marketing materials that build awareness of our philanthropic opportunities and foster the growth of our philanthropic culture.


  • Degree or diploma in a relevant field. CFRE designation is an asset.
  • Understanding of the philanthropic landscape in the Okanagan is an asset.
  • Progressive fund development experience with demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles, legislation and best practices.
  • High degree of independence and initiative, and works effectively in a collaborative team culture.
  • Polished and persuasive individual who is dynamic, results-orientated, and displays a deep commitment to excellence.
  • Computer proficient, including Microsoft Office, and Raiser's Edge an asset.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide three references, of which a minimum of two will be professional in nature (e.g. employer, supervisor or colleague).
  • A current satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided preceding start date; the YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
