The Aquatic Camp Program Leader is energetic, personable, resourceful, well-organized, with superior interpersonal skills, and who excels in a fast paced, challenging work environment.

Reporting directly to the Aquatic Manager and the Aquatic Supervisors, the Aquatic Camp Program Leader will assist the Aquatic Manager in the provision of aquatic instructional or recreation programs, and is a key team member to the Aquatics Department at the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre.

The Aquatic Camp Program Leader is responsible for running Aquatic Seal Camps, and Advanced Aquatic Courses and instilling the Y's core values of caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, and inclusiveness. The Aquatic Camp Community Program Leader will provide support to all lifeguard and instructional staff working at the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre. The Aquatic Camp Program Leader ensures on-duty aquatic staff work effectively, programs operate safely, and the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre is properly prepared for the enjoyment and satisfaction of all participants.

 Major Responsibilities and Abilities:

  • Teach swimming lessons as required at the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre
  • Plan and teach advanced aquatic courses
  • Lifeguard and supervise water activities
  • Plan and lead aquatic related special events at the H2O Aquatic + Fitness Centre
  • Serve as a role model and demonstrate YMCA Core Values
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions


  • National Lifeguard Service Certification-Pool Option
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR- and AED Responder (must be a Lifesaving Society certification)
  • YMCA Canada Swim Instructor
  • Lifesaving Instructor an asset
  • A minimum of one-year lifeguarding and teaching experience
  • Must be between 16 and 30 years of age

Upon request provide three references. A minimum of two will be professional in nature (e.g. teacher, coach, employer, supervisor or colleague)

Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six months preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
