We are seeking an Aquatic Community Program Leader who is energetic, personable, resourceful, well-organized, with superior interpersonal skills, and who excels in a fast paced, challenging work environment.

Reporting directly to the Aquatic Manager and the Aquatic Supervisors, the Aquatic Community Program Leader is responsible for running Advanced Aquatic Courses and swimming lessons in Lake Country while instilling the Y's core values of caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, and inclusiveness. As well, the Leader will provide support to all lifeguard and instructional staff working at the Kelowna Family YMCA while supporting all on-duty aquatic staff to work effectively and ensuring all programs operate safely.

Major Responsibilities and Abilities:

  • Teach swimming lessons as required
  • Plan and teach advanced aquatic courses
  • Lifeguard and supervise water activities

Qualifications:

  • National Lifeguard Service Certification-Pool Option
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED Responder (Must be Lifesaving Society certification)
  • YMCA Canada Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Instructor (Is an asset)
  • A minimum of one-year lifeguarding and teaching experience
  • Upon request provide three references. A minimum of two will be professional in nature (e.g. teacher, coach, employer, supervisor or colleague)
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six months preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
