Position Details: 

The Beyond the Bell (BTB) Child Care Leader is energetic, personable, resourceful, well-organized, natural at building relationships and has an ability to bring out the best in children. Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Out of School Care Program the BTB Child Care Leader is a key member to the Child Care Department.

Beyond the Bell is an after-school academic enrichment program that assists children with literacy and numeracy. Additionally, the program incorporates activities that foster optimal developmental growth and cultivate the YMCA's core values of; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty. Participants will engage in sport, outdoor play, science, and arts and crafts while improving social, numeric and literacy skills.

$14.55/hour

Major Responsibilities and Abilities:

  • Leads high quality program planning; incorporating the Y's values
  • Maintains safety and supervision in accordance with provincial licensing requirements and standards
  • Operates the center as per the Y's child behavior management guidelines
  • Builds healthy relationships with children, parents, teachers, colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Actively interacts with children ages 6-12 as a play partner and homework helper
  • Supports implementation of play based educational programming, including interactive play, literacy, mathematics, science, building, drama, games, team building, daily physical activity, and sports
  • Participates in YMCA of Okanagan community initiatives such as; Strong Kids Campaign, Healthy Kids Day, etc.
  • Enthusiastic and positive nature

Qualifications:

  • Have completed a course or a combination of courses of a least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition
  • Current First Aid certification with CPR level B or C
  • Certificate/diploma/degree in a related field, and/or ECE Assistant certification (considered an asset)
  • Valid B.C. driver's license (Class 4 operator's licence is considered an asset)
  • Upon request provide three references, (e.g. employer, supervisor or colleague, teacher, coach, etc.)
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six months preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
