Join our new Community Programs team at the YMCA! Enjoy a fun environment, with a flexible work schedule, all while helping to transform the lives of children and families in Penticton.

Continuing this Fall, the YMCA of Okanagan is providing free drop-in parent participation early years services at the Penticton Recreation Centre. These programs integrate socializing, learning, and play opportunities for children ages 0-6 with individualized service navigation support for vulnerable families.

Reporting to the Family Support Navigator, the Early Childhood Educator will be trained in the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum and create activities and experiences that are age and developmentally appropriate and enhance early learning, community belonging, and support cultural awareness. The candidate is energetic, personable, resourceful, well-organized, with superior interpersonal skills, and excels in a fast-paced, challenging work environment. Monday- Friday

8:30am-1:30pm

Major Responsibilities and Abilities:

  • Plans and provides customized high-quality early learning activities and experiences on an on-going basis, ensuring the program is developmentally appropriate, sensory-sensitive, and provides a nurturing, fun, and safe environment for children and families to play alongside each other.
  • Builds relationships through positive daily interactions with children, families, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Models sensitivity to the diverse needs of children and families, such as literacy, emotional, sensory, social, behavioural, and cultural differences.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of child development and experience working with children with special needs
  • Understanding and willingness to work in a family-centered model, working closely with caregivers
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability work independently in the face of competing priorities
  • Upon request provide 3 professional references (eg. Employer, Supervisor or Colleague).
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than 6 months preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
  • Certificate in Early Childhood Education with specialization in Infant Toddler Certification/ Special Needs Education is an asset
